🇺🇸 The North American X-15-1 (S/N 56-6670) is a rocket-powered experimental aircraft developed in the United States by North American Aviation for the NASA–USAF X-15 program. Designed to explore hypersonic flight and extreme altitudes, it reached speeds above Mach 6 and altitudes beyond 350,000 feet. Powered by the Reaction Motors XLR11 and later the XLR99 rocket engine, the X-15-1 became one of the most significant research aircraft in aviation history.
